Singing Time
The Musical Big Fish has a great range of music that is fun to listen too, but also leaves a lasting impression on the listener. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to every piece, and I would definitely like to listen to them again.
My favorite track is 'Time Stops.' I imagine it starting on a bit of a darkened stage with the main leads on his own, as the song begins with him describing how he realizes his world is much bigger than he first thought, and his mind is opened up to fantasies and other realities. I think as the female lead begins to sing, colour begins to seep onto stage, and the two are slowly brought out of the darkness around them, almost as if clouds are being cleared, and they realize their love for each other. At the end, the two are reunited together without obstacles, and light fills the stage, I really feel like this song has quite the impact, and the vocals are amazing. It fills well into the Musical because it revolves around their main character, and it plays on the romantic theme of the story being told.
My least favorite song is Daffodils. While I liked all of the songs of this Musical, this one seemed to be my least favorite, although as well as my most liked song, it plays on the romantic theme. I feel like the song is a bit slow and drags on, making the listener feel as if it might not end. While it does have high points and lovely quality, I feel like it could have been done better. I think to keep the audience engaged and interested in the song, there would need to be brighter colors and more of movement from the cast. While listening to this song I could appreciate it, but people who aren't necessarily involved in music or really care for it, wouldn't be able to notice the little quirks of the song that makes it special. I think the cast will have to display these quirks on stage, for everyone to see and to admire.
I just love how you imagined Time stops should play out on the stage, it's just like I picture it being. I really like how it incorporates the use of lights, nice thinking! I'm surprised you didn't like daffodils however, because it it is also like a continuing the love story of Sandra and Edward but I see where your coming from. I think that adding more colour to the scene as you say will help with the scene though. Great ideas!
